Region of Tuscany

Tuscany is probably the best known region in Italy for both food and wine.  It is the home of Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Tuscany was the granary for Caesars legions, the birthplace of the renaissance and the destination of many English writers. Tuscan winemakers have lead a renaissance in Italian winemaking during the last few decades.  The old rules had to change to accommodate their better wines, benefiting wines all over Italy. Its cities include Florence and Siena. Tuscany's best known provinces are Chianti, Montalcino, Montepulciano and San Gimignano

Tuscany's Chianti is perhaps the best known wine in the world. Chianti Classico comes only from the Classico area of Chianti and has the Black Rooster on the label.  Sangiovese is the red grape of Tuscany. Clones of Sangiovese are the main grape of Chianti Classico, Vino Nobile d Montepulciano and Brunello di Montalcino. These three wines are the Great Red Wines of Tuscany.  And don't forget the "Super Tuscans".  These are the wines produced outside the DOC / DOCG government approved wine categories throughout Italy.  They tend to include the grapes Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot.  They may be blended with Sangiovese or not and compete with the best wines in the world.  Tuscany also produces Olive Oil that many consider the world's best.

Cantina Crociani
Located in Tuscany south of Florence in the town of Montepulciano is the vineyard and winery, Cantina Crociani. Montepulciano is renowned for the wine Vino Nobile Di Montepulciano. The wine name means" wine of nobles from Montepulciano" The wine is given the highest status in Italy, DOCG. The wine is made from a clone of Sangiovese called Prugnolo Gentile and the grapes Canaiolo Nero and Mammolo.

Arnaldo Crociani was a cellar man for wineries in the area, as were his father and grandfather. Arnaldo acquired 20 acres of vineyards and olive trees and started his own winery. Arnaldo was very active in the community and truly was "a man of Montepulciano."

Arnoldo's children now carry on the family tradition.  Now, after the premature death of her brother, Giorgio, Susanna goes on with the same passion that has been the founding stone of the family business. They also have accommodations for tourists. If you are in Montepulciano stop by and meet Susanna.

Fattoria Casisano Colombaio

In the splendid silent hills of Tuscany, surrounded by woods and sunshine, rises the "Farm Casisano Colombaio".  Their wines are born from the blend of grapes reared in two remote but excellent areas for growing grapes.  Total land of 60 hectares of which 19 to vineyards and 9 to olive groves. There the Colombaio farm is firmly planted on slopes accessible to the middle coast of the hill of Montalcino, in the shadow of the church of Our Lady of the Snows.  The estate is a splendid natural terrace overlooking the area south-east of the town Montalcino, including the Abbey of Sant'Antimo and the Orcia river valley.  It is here that a wonderful small production Brunello di Montalcino is born.

Marchesato degli Aleramici

Our estate "IL GALAMPIO" is located at MONTALCINO, close to Siena in the locality "Pian delle vigne". This ancient farm is on a gentle slope which descends from the state forest down towards the Ombrone river. The east/west facing vineyards and olive groves are close to the old farm approximately 32 hectares, 14 hectares planted with vines.

Production of this famous wine is limited to the commune of Montalcino. Grape variety is Sangiovese Grosso. 9 hectares of Brunello are grown in their " IL GALAMPIO" holding.

Brunello Marchesato degli Aleramici 2002 DOCG

After a long period of maturation in cask, Sangiovese becomes a wine of intense ruby to bright garnet in color, dry and warm in flavor, lightly tannic with great structure and aromatic length. Its aroma also evolves, becoming intense with age, complex and variegated, ranging from spice to wood, from tobacco to forest fruits. This wine goes especially well with red meats, roast game, charcoal grilled meats and strong cheeses such as Parmesan, Tuscan sheep cheese (pecorino) etc.
